Byron's Pool, part of the River Cam in Cambridgeshire, carries the name of the famous poet Lord Byron, who used to swim at the weir pool. This delightful woodland site offers a lovely circular walk alongside the river, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
The area is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. You might spot kingfishers darting by or grey wagtails near the weir. The woodland is actively managed by removing non-native sycamore trees and encouraging native hazel through coppicing. Additionally, several small ponds are maintained to support amphibian populations, making it a vibrant spot for nature lovers.
Fishing at Byron's Pool is managed by CFPAS Ltd on behalf of Cambridge City Council. If you already hold a membership, you're welcome to fish the waters here. It's a Local Nature Reserve, so enjoying a peaceful day by the river is always an option for members.
