Heatherton Pond

History

Heatherton Pond was established in 1998 as part of the Sustainable Urban Drainage System connected to the nearby Heatherton housing development across Moorway Lane. Its main purpose is to manage stormwater, with water flowing in from Pastures Hill into the southwest corner and exiting back to Hell Brook via the southeast. This setup helps maintain effective water control for the area.

Habitat

Beyond its role in water management, Heatherton Pond supports local biodiversity. Ongoing collaborations with Derby City Council aim to enhance the pond’s habitat by introducing new plantings. These efforts are designed to create a balanced environment that benefits both flora and fauna, contributing to the pond’s ecological health.

Carp Fishing

Designated as a specimen Carp Water, Heatherton Pond offers anglers the opportunity to engage in carp fishing under specific Carp Rules. The pond is home to robust carp, providing enthusiasts with a focused and enjoyable fishing experience. Whether you’re an experienced angler or looking to try something new, Heatherton Pond offers a tranquil setting to pursue your hobby.
