Wynnstay Carp Fishery

Key Information
Legacy
The Wynnstay Carp Fishery in Wrexham carries a storied legacy, deeply intertwined with the Williams-Wynn family, prominent landowners in North and Mid Wales for centuries. The estate's hall grounds, a grade one listed site designed by Capability Brown, surround the historic lake and stone boathouse crafted by Richard Woods nearly 230 years ago. Originally a decorative canal, the 10-acre lake was meticulously dug by hand and lined with native Ruabon clay, setting the stage for a vibrant fishing community that has persisted through the years.
Features
Today, Wynnstay Carp Fishery offers club memberships, fostering a community of dedicated anglers who appreciate the tranquil surroundings and the rich heritage of the estate. The fishery also encompasses wildlife and conservation areas, providing a haven for local biodiversity and enhancing the overall fishing experience. In 2007, the fishery was revitalised with essential repairs to the banks and the iconic Grand Avenue, ensuring the grounds remain a welcoming spot for fishing enthusiasts.
Fish
Anglers at Wynnstay can target impressive carp weighing up to 42 lb, while tench reach sizes of up to 5 lb. The clay liner and an average depth of six feet create warm summer waters, ideal for the rapid growth of sizeable fish. Following its reopening in the spring of 2009, the addition of common, mirror, and leather carp complemented the existing older populations, making Wynnstay a popular destination for those seeking substantial catches and a rewarding fishing experience.
