About Wakefield Lagoon

Wakefield Lagoon covers around 5 acres and reaches an average depth of 7 metres. Developed from an old gravel pit in the early 1950s, the lagoon has a rich history and is a popular spot for dedicated anglers. Over the years, it has been regularly stocked with quality Carp, making it a favourite among specimen angling enthusiasts.

Access and Parking

You can reach Wakefield Lagoon via Engine Lane, Horbury Junction. Please use the car park located behind the boathouse, as parking on the grass is not permitted. The lagoon is conveniently situated between the M1 motorway, the Railway, and the River Calder, offering easy access for visitors.

Fish Species

Anglers at Wakefield Lagoon can expect to catch impressive Carp and Pike weighing over 20lb. Additionally, Tench up to 7lb and Bream up to 10lb are regularly reported. The variety of species ensures a rewarding experience for those who visit.

Club memberships are offered, providing access to the lagoon and the opportunity to participate in various competitions and matches organized by the Wakefield Angling Club.
