About Waterloo Lake

Situated within Roundhay Park in West Yorkshire, Waterloo Lake spans approximately 15 acres and is managed by Leeds DASA. Over recent years, the lake has experienced some water loss, but it generally maintains a stable level. The bottom, composed mainly of clay and stone, contributes to the water's natural colour, adding character to the fishing environment.

Available Facilities

Anglers can purchase day tickets at the onsite cafe, which also offers a selection of refreshments. Convenient toilet facilities are available for all visitors. The pegs closest to the cafe feature hard standing areas, making them accessible for anglers with disabilities. However, these spots can become quite busy with park users and walkers, especially during weekends and school holidays.

Fish Species

Waterloo Lake is home to a diverse range of fish. Bream are the main target, with specimens reaching up to 7 lb. Carp and pike can grow up to 20 lb each, offering a thrilling challenge for anglers. Roach have also developed to a respectable size, particularly appealing to caster anglers, while perch and chub are present in smaller sizes, just under 3 lb. Tench can be caught up to 5 lb, rounding out the variety available at the lake.

While fishing here can be rewarding, it's important to be mindful of the frequent disturbances from park activities and dogs. During quieter times, such as weekdays outside school holidays, anglers may find a more peaceful experience. Additionally, there is an upper lake near the Mansion Hotel used as a stock pond and nature reserve, where fishing is not permitted.
