The triangular stretch of land on the right bank downstream of the Toll Bridge opposite the weir is the prime spot for fishing on the River Avon in Batheaston. Despite having only three swims, there's plenty of water to explore, offering significant potential for anglers.
The best route to the fishery is via the A4 from Bath to Chippenham. From the main junction, follow the 'Batheaston' sign and turn onto Toll Bridge Road to the right. Parking is limited, so please exercise caution when crossing the Toll Bridge. The Toll House acts as the gateway to the fishery.
The River Avon at Batheaston is renowned for its excellent fishing, rivalled by few in the south-west. Anglers can expect to catch barbel, bream typically weighing between 4 to 5 pounds, with some exceeding 100 pounds, chub, pike, and roach. Roach are plentiful, with many reaching over 1 pound each season. Non-members can purchase day tickets for £5 in advance, while members enjoy free fishing. Competitions are held regularly, so members should keep an eye out for "Waters Closed" signs.
