Lechmere Water

Key Information
History
Emborough Pond, also known as Lechmere Water, has a storied past dating back to 1525 when monks secured a 51-year lease on the mill pond. During their stewardship, they introduced bream, tench, perch, and roach to the waters, adhering to dietary restrictions that allowed fish consumption over meat. However, in 1533, the tranquility was disrupted when locals seized the fish and dismantled the dam, marking a significant turn in the pond's history.
