Attenborough Nature Reserve

Key Information
Membership and Access
Attenborough Nature Reserve is a members-only water, ensuring a controlled and respectful fishing environment. Club memberships are offered to those interested in accessing the reserve. Membership books must always be carried, and a key is required for some access points. The reserve is actively patrolled by association Bailiffs and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust Wardens, providing a safe and well-regulated fishing experience.
Fishing Opportunities
The reserve is renowned for its excellent Bream fishing, though locating large shoals requires patience and skill. Anglers who invest the effort may be rewarded with substantial catches. In addition to Bream, the waters are home to Carp, Perch, Pike, Roach, and Tench. Three gravel pits to the west of the River Erewash are available for fishing all year round, allowing for continuous angling throughout the seasons.
Conservation and Regulations
Approximately 75% of Attenborough Nature Reserve is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), highlighting its importance for wildlife and conservation. Strict rules are enforced to protect the sensitive environment, including a closed season and restrictions on certain areas. Livebaiting is prohibited, and the use of artificial lures and spinners is banned on this water. Anglers are encouraged to take special care with discarded tackle and litter to maintain the reserve’s pristine condition.
