For residents of North Yorkshire, Chapmans Pond is a well-known spot near Dringhouses, overshadowed only by the larger York Lakeside Lodges. Owned by York City Council, the pond is accessible via the A1036 by turning into Moor Lane near the Tesco supermarket. After passing the railway bridge and mini-roundabout, you'll find the pond on the right.
Spanning 1 acre, this brick pond is part of a designated nature reserve and comes with convenient car parking. Best of all, fishing here is free, making it a popular choice among locals. With depths reaching up to 12 feet and an average of 7 to 8 feet, it maintains a classic fishery environment.
Chapmans Pond is home to roach, perch, bream, and tench, the latter growing up to 5lb. Anglers often use maggots or casters on the drop for catching roach and perch, while corn or bread over hemp can attract skimmers and tench. It's best to visit during quieter times, as the pond attracts many children on holidays and sunny weekends.
