Fish Species
The fish stock at Sparham Pools is currently limited but includes pike reaching up to thirty pounds, perch, roach up to nine pounds, and tench also up to nine pounds. Bream are present in the double digits, and there are occasional carp sightings, including a notable common carp weighing twenty-six pounds captured several years ago. Additionally, chub have migrated to the pools from the River Wensum during flood events, though their population remains small.
Season
The fishing season at Sparham Pools runs from April 1st to January 31st annually, with pike fishing commencing on October 1st. It is important to note that from January 1st, fishing is prohibited on the river’s nearest bank to protect overwintering bird populations, ensuring that wildlife continues to thrive undisturbed.
