Anglers can target pike weighing up to 20 lb, with some specimens reaching the mid-twenties. The lake is also home to impressive carp, including Mirror Carp up to 40 lb and Common Carp in the mid-thirties. Additionally, anglers might encounter Tench up to 12 lb, Perch up to 4 lb 8 oz, and smaller species like Chub, Roach, Dace, Rudd, and Gudgeon in the adjacent River Blackwater.

Success at River Valley Lake often requires a dedicated approach. Following the wind can help locate the small head of carp, and using live bait is effective for the abundant shoals of Rudd, especially during winter.
