If you’re after a challenging dry fly fishing experience, Lower Itchen Fishery delivers with its five distinct beats. Each section offers something different, from white water pools to faster riffled stretches and deep pools, keeping your angling adventures varied and exciting. Four of these beats are accessible from both sides of the river, thanks to convenient footbridges. The fifth beat, however, is only fished from one bank, allowing the opposite side to remain untouched as a sanctuary for birds and insects.

Facilities

Visitors can gather at the central Fishing Lodge, which serves as the perfect spot for a break or a meal. The BBQ areas and picnic spots are ideal for enjoying a relaxed day by the river. Additionally, the fishery is equipped with disabled access and facilities, ensuring that everyone can comfortably enjoy their time here.

Wildlife and Conservation

Lower Itchen Fishery places a strong emphasis on wildlife and conservation. The natural haven provided by the non-fished bank supports a variety of bird and insect life, maintaining the ecological balance of the area. Regular stocking of high-quality brown trout, reaching up to 8lb, complements the wild populations, fostering a thriving environment for both fish and wildlife.
