Overview

Moran's Moat is situated beside Fan Lodge in Greater Manchester. This purpose-built fishery spans approximately 120 metres in length and 70 metres wide at the top. The water is around 11 metres wide and reaches a depth of 1.5 metres, featuring shelves on either side to enhance the fishing experience. With 30 pegs available, anglers have ample space to cast their lines.

Fish Species

Anglers at Moran's Moat can expect to find a variety of fish, including carp, tench, bream, roach, chub, and gudgeon. The fishery was initially stocked with thousands of mixed roach, carp, gudgeon, and hybrids, along with additional small and common carp added over the years. In 2008, 400 six-inch chub were introduced, and in July 2009, another 2,000 carp measuring six to eight inches were added to the waters.

Booking and Rules

To book Moran's Moat for matches, anglers should contact the Match Secretary. A minimum of ten pegs can be reserved at a cost of £3.00 per peg. It's important to note that keepnets are not allowed except during matches, and only barbless hooks may be used. These rules help maintain the quality and sustainability of the fishery for all visitors.
