Access and Parking
Fishing is restricted to the tow path and public access banks along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation Canal. It's important to maintain a distance of at least 30 metres from any lock and 15 metres from bridges, weirs, or other structures. Parking varies by location: Springfield Lock provides pay & display car parking, while Heybridge Basin boasts a large public car park. Other locks offer limited or no parking, so it's wise to plan your visit and park responsibly.
Fish Species
The canal is home to a diverse range of fish. Anglers can expect to catch carp up to 30 lb and pike reaching 25 lb. Bream can grow up to 8 lb, tench up to 6 lb, chub up to 5 lb, perch up to 2 lb, roach up to 1 lb 8 oz, and dace up to 8 oz. Whether you're after a hefty carp or a smaller perch, there's plenty to pursue.
Membership and Activities
Club memberships are available for those who wish to fish regularly on the canal. Members should refer to the notice boards along the waterway, as some banks may be private or off-limits.
