River Ouse

Key Information
Fishing Sections
The River Ouse from Newick to Barcombe offers a varied fishing experience. Near Newick, the water flows rapidly, creating ideal conditions for chub, roach, perch, and eels. As you move towards the Anchor Inn, the river slows down, making it a better spot for carp and bream. Below Barcombe Mill, the river becomes tidal, attracting sea trout during their run.
Fish Species
Anglers can find a range of species along the River Ouse. In the faster sections, you’re likely to catch chub, roach, perch, and eels. Slower waters near the Anchor Inn are home to carp and bream. In the tidal areas below Barcombe Mill, sea trout are a highlight. Additionally, there are some barbel, though they are not abundant.
Club Memberships
Club memberships are offered by the Copthorne & District Angling Society, which has been around for over 80 years. Members have access to a total of eight miles of the River Ouse, thanks to an agreement with the Ouse Angling Preservation Society. This includes access to three weirs and some access to Barcombe weir, as well as another sluice on St Andrews stream.
