Radipole Lake

Key Information
About Radipole Lake
Radipole Lake, located in Dorset, sits along the River Wey and flows into Weymouth Harbour. Covering 87 hectares, the lake features extensive reedbeds, a sizable island, and a network of surrounding waterways. Originally a tidal estuary, Radipole transformed into a freshwater lake following the construction of Westham Bridge in the early 20th century. Today, water from two catchments is held back by the bridge's tidal barrier, creating a unique aquatic environment.
Fishing Spots
Anglers will find approximately 15 acres of water to explore at Radipole Lake. The area includes back channels and narrow stretches, perfect for those who enjoy getting close to the action. For distance casting enthusiasts, there's a 5-acre open water stretch offering ample space. The fishing platform can accommodate two bivvys simultaneously, allowing up to six rods to be used at the same time. This setup caters to both casual and dedicated anglers looking to make the most of their time on the water.
Wildlife Protection
Managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Radipole Lake is a crucial habitat for reedbed birds. The nature reserve status ensures that the area's diverse wildlife is preserved, making it not only a great spot for fishing but also a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The harmonious blend of fishing activities and conservation efforts creates a balanced environment where both anglers and wildlife can thrive.
