Overview

Endsleigh Fishing Club offers anglers access to nine miles of the lower River Tamar in Devon, renowned as the best salmon river in the South-West. This stretch below Greystone Bridge provides exceptionally beautiful and secluded fishing opportunities, making it a favourite among fishing enthusiasts.

Fishing Season

The salmon fishing season at Lower Tamar begins on March 1st and concludes on October 14th. During this period, fishing is predominantly fly fishing, organized into six beats that are fished in rotation. Each beat features 10 to 12 named pools, with Beat 6 also encompassing tidal waters. From March to mid-September, spinning is permitted under specific conditions, primarily when river levels are exceptionally high and visibility is low.

Facilities and Accessibility

Anglers can drive along the riverside track to reach almost all the pools, providing convenient access for visitors. The fishery accommodates disabled anglers with accessible facilities. Additionally, boat fishing and hire services are available on four pools, allowing for varied fishing experiences. It's important to note that prawn and worm bait are not permitted, and all salmon caught before June 16th must be returned in accordance with national regulations.

Fishing Techniques

Fishing at Lower Tamar is primarily conducted from the bank, croys, or by wading, with chest waders recommended for certain pools. For those using fly rods, a length of 14-15 feet with a sink tip line and nylon weights ranging from 10-18 lbs is advised. In low water conditions, some pools are suitable for single-handed rods of 10-11 feet. A large knotless mesh guy net is recommended for safety and conservation purposes.
