Location

Yew Tree Tarn is located alongside the A593 Ambleside to Coniston Road, around three miles from Skelwith Bridge in Cumbria. Its striking appearance has made it one of Lakeland's most photographed tarns, earning a notable spot in world snapshot rankings alongside Mount Fuji.

Fishing

Yew Tree Tarn is stocked with brown trout, with specimens weighing up to a pound. Anglers will find the shallow and weedy sections suitable for fly fishing, particularly using floating lines paired with nymphs or dries. While standard patterns are effective, success hinges on the angler's skill in their application. In the evenings, as the daylight crowds leave, fish activity tends to increase, providing enhanced fishing conditions.

Access

Visitors can easily access Yew Tree Tarn via the adjacent car park, with day permits available from the Coniston Tourist Information Centre. A two fish bag limit is enforced, and fishing is restricted to fly techniques only. Wearing waders is recommended due to the surrounding woodland and marshy banks.
