Harbour Area

Maryport has recently undergone significant changes, especially around the harbour. The new waterside housing and marina developments add to its charm, making it a delightful spot to visit. The River Ellen flows through the harbour, providing various angling opportunities.

Target Species

During the summer months, anglers can target plaice, bass, and flounders. In the winter, codling and whiting become the main catches. The inner harbour often has a good head of mullet, offering plenty of options for sea fishing enthusiasts.

Disabled Access

The River Ellen is equipped with disabled access and facilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a day of fishing. Fishing takes place in the harbour, from the piers, and along the accessible promenade to the north. The best fishing is during the bigger spring tides, especially in the four hours leading up to high tide. At high water, fishing shifts away from the promenade itself.
