Key Information
Fish Species
Ratherheath Tarn is home to a variety of fish, including carp, roach, bream, tench, and perch. Carp can reach impressive sizes up to 20 lb, with many anglers catching specimens in the low to mid-teens. Bream fishing is superb here, featuring larger fish in the 5 lb to 7 lb range. Roach typically average around 8 oz, though larger ones are also present. Tench usually weigh around 4 lb, with more sizeable examples appearing in increasing numbers.
Facilities
The tarn offers 40 well-spaced pegs set within a private and secluded woodland area, just a couple of miles from Kendal. Accessibility is a priority, with good facilities available for wheelchair anglers. This ensures that everyone can enjoy a comfortable and enjoyable fishing experience.
Fishing Experience
Fishing at Ratherheath Tarn is best from March to October when the waters are most active. During the warmer months, carp are often on the surface, making floating baits a popular and effective method. It's not uncommon to catch up to ten fish in a single session. Success can vary depending on the location and weather conditions, so anglers often need to be adaptable. Currently, fishing at Ratherheath is restricted to members of WADAA, so club memberships are required for access.
