Loweswater

Key Information
Overview
Loweswater is a charming small lake in Cumbria, part of the River Cocker catchment. Unlike its western counterparts, it drains to the east, offering a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape. The area around Loweswater has a gentle, pastoral feel and remains largely untouched by the bustle of tourism, providing a peaceful retreat for anglers.
Fish Population
Historically known for its sizeable trout, Loweswater has seen a shift in its aquatic inhabitants. While a few trout may still linger, coarse fish now take centre stage, particularly pike. These pike typically weigh around six pounds, though there's always the excitement of spotting a larger specimen among them.
Permits
Fishing at Loweswater is managed by the National Trust. Permits can be obtained from Mrs Leck at Waterend Farm. Day permits are priced at £8.00 and cover fishing across Buttermere, Crummock Water, and Loweswater, including a short stretch of the River Cocker. For those planning longer visits, weekly permits are available for £30.00, and season permits can be purchased for £60.00.
