Blelham Tarn is home to a variety of fish, including perch, roach, and notably pike. Anglers often seek the thrill of catching pike, with specimens exceeding twenty pounds captured most years. While perch and roach can grow to a good size, it's the pike that draw many to this charming tarn.
Access to Blelham Tarn is somewhat limited due to the surrounding reeds and boggy areas. There are two designated swims: one on the southern shore near the boathouse and another on a rocky outcrop on the eastern side. The outcrop swim requires a longer walk from the public footpath past Low Wray campsite. For those driving in, parking is conveniently available just south of the driveway to Wray Castle, with a public footpath leading directly down to the waters.
Club memberships are essential for fishing at Blelham Tarn, as the fishing rights are managed by WADAA and reserved exclusively for members. Unfortunately, no day permits are available, ensuring a dedicated angling community. While overnight fishing isn’t permitted, the serene environment offers a perfect day’s outing for club members looking to enjoy quality time by the water.
