Bessy Beck

Key Information
Location and History
Bessy Beck is situated next to the village of Newbiggin-on-Lune in Cumbria. The fishery originated from a boggy field, which was transformed by Simon Norman-Ballantyne over nearly twenty years. In 2003, Ian and Shelley Riddell took over the site, enhancing it with various amenities. The water that feeds the farm comes from the Bessy Beck stream, the source of the River Lune.
Facilities
The fishery features a farm shop and a bait and tackle shop, ensuring anglers have access to necessary equipment. Additionally, there is a tea room where visitors can enjoy refreshments. These facilities support a comfortable visit, whether you're preparing for a day of fishing or taking a break.
Fishing Experience
As the weather warms, trout at Bessy Beck become more active, providing anglers with promising results. The fishing season is well underway, and the quality of the water contributes to strong, spirited fish. While the hatchery closed in 2005, rainbow trout are now supplied as fingerlings, maintaining the standard of sport fish available for fishing enthusiasts.
