Gordons Pool offers anglers a diverse mix of species to pursue. You can expect to catch barbel, bream, carp, chub, perch, roach, tench, and even a few trout. Although the pool was originally a trout fishery, a handful of these elegant fish still roam the waters, providing a nostalgic touch for seasoned anglers.
Getting to Gordons Pool is quite straightforward. Take the A525 from Newcastle-under-Lyme towards Woore, passing by Keele University and the Newcastle Municipal Golf Club. Follow the Keele Village By-pass and look out for the turning to Madeley on your left. Continue past Onneley Golf Club and The Wheatsheaf, then make a sharp left near Onneley Village Hall. After about three quarters of a mile, the lake will appear on your left. If you choose to enter via Private Road, the car park is conveniently located by the water's edge, easily identified by the shed at the end of the road.
The varying depths of Gordons Pool, ranging from 2 to 6 feet, create ideal habitats for different fish species. Whether you're casting near the shallow edges or venturing into deeper waters, there's ample opportunity to find a good spot. The tranquil setting allows for a peaceful day out, letting you enjoy the simple pleasure of fishing in Cheshire’s natural landscape.
