Getting to Cargill Lake is straightforward. You can walk downstream from the car park at the railway station or head upstream from the Watts Pool car park and cross the footbridge. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll or a bit more of a trek, both routes offer a unique approach to the lake.
The lake spans eleven acres and reaches depths of up to 20 feet in places. It’s known for its specimen-sized carp and pike, which often come close to dead baits along the margins. While bream are reasonably sized and perch are present, pike fishing tends to be the highlight for many anglers. When the lake is quiet, the nearby River Colnebrook provides an alternative fishing spot, adding variety to your outing.
Cargill Lake offers club memberships for those who want to make regular visits. Visitor licenses are available too: £10 for one day or £20 for 48 hours. Remember, all visitors must be accompanied by a member. Night fishing is allowed, but there are specific rules regarding the types and quantities of bait you can use. It’s a good idea to check these restrictions before your evening trip.
