Green Lagoon

Key Information
History
Green Lagoon was created in the 1850s by The Arlesey Brick and Lime Company. The lagoon originated from a hand-excavated pit, where chalk was transported down the hill to brick factories via a tiny tramway. Around the turn of the century, the pit was abandoned and naturally flooded, giving birth to the lagoon as it stands today. Its trapezoidal shape covers approximately three acres, with the northern end featuring a steep chalk cliff reaching depths of up to 30 feet.
Fishing
Anglers at Green Lagoon can expect a diverse range of fish. The lagoon is home to Bream, Carp, Perch, Pike, Roach, Rudd, and Tench. This season, fishermen have caught Carp weighing up to 25 pounds, with the potential for even larger specimens. The warm waters keep the fish active throughout the winter, allowing for early spring fishing. A popular spot is 'Magic Corner,' where the east and west banks meet, attracting various species to spawn in the early months.
Features
Green Lagoon offers both club memberships and day ticket access, catering to a wide range of anglers. With over 650 members, including Seniors, Juniors, and Senior Citizens, the Letchworth Garden City Angling Association fosters a welcoming community. Whether you're visiting for a day or looking to join the club, Green Lagoon provides ample opportunities to enjoy fishing without the need to venture far from the shoreline.
