Bedford - Fenlake stretches along the right bank downstream from the old railway bridge near Longholme Way in Bedford, extending nearly 1,000 metres to the area opposite Fenlake Anchor. The river flows south-easterly, then easterly, and once more south-easterly, offering a wide and slow-moving stretch ideal for fishing.
Anglers at Bedford - Fenlake can expect to encounter a variety of fish. The main species include bream, which can reach weights of over 6 lbs, perch, pike up to the mid-teens, roach, and tench. Notably, large bream catches exceeding 100 lbs have been reported in this area. During the summer months, chub and very large carp are also frequently sighted.
During the summer, weed growth along the river margins can be a challenge. It's advisable to fish from an existing cleared swim or use a weed rake to manage the vegetation. The opposite bank sees lighter fishing activity, providing a more tranquil experience, especially in the bottom half of the river. Despite being on the outskirts of Bedford, this stretch of the river remains surprisingly peaceful, making it a pleasant spot for both casual and dedicated anglers.
