River Birkin
River Overview
The River Birkin meanders through Cheshire, running parallel to the River Bollin. It begins at the expansive lake in Tatton Park and eventually joins the Bollin at Bowden. This game river is home to both brown and rainbow trout, offering anglers a serene spot to cast their lines.
Fishing Tips
While the Dunham Massey Angling Club manages a short stretch of the Birkin, the river's layout makes fly casting a bit challenging. However, persistence pays off. During the summer months when water levels are low, consider wading and flicking a fly towards the overhanging trees that shelter deeper holes. Alternatively, using a worm in the swims and trotting downstream can lead you to encounters with trout or the sizeable Chub resting in the waters. Keep an eye out for large shoals of Dace darting in the shallows and impressive trout navigating the far side.
